Row Over Doctor’s Alleged Religious Bias Sparks Strong Reaction from Santanu Sen…

Date:

KOLKATA, WEST BENGAL — A fresh controversy has emerged in the medical community after former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen strongly criticized an alleged incident involving a cardiologist, raising concerns over ethics and neutrality in the healthcare profession.

Speaking in Kolkata, Sen подчеркнул that the medical profession is a noble field built on the fundamental principle of treating every patient equally, without any discrimination based on religion, politics, or personal beliefs. His remarks came in response to claims that a cardiologist had offered a financial discount to patients who used a specific religious slogan.

According to Sen, such actions are deeply troubling and go against the ethical foundation of medical practice. He stated that every doctor takes an oath to serve humanity impartially, and introducing political or religious conditions into treatment undermines the very essence of the profession.

Referring to the specific allegation, Sen said that a cardiologist, reportedly associated with a political symbol, had posted that individuals saying “Jai Shree Ram” would receive a ₹500 discount. He described this as inappropriate and unacceptable, emphasizing that healthcare services must remain free from any form of bias or conditional treatment.

Sen further asserted that doctors should never discriminate among patients under any circumstances, adding that such behavior could erode trust between patients and medical professionals. He stressed that maintaining neutrality is essential to preserving the dignity and credibility of the healthcare system.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Sen revealed that discussions are being held to address the matter. He mentioned that a meeting has been scheduled to deliberate on the situation and determine appropriate steps, indicating that the issue is being taken seriously within professional and public circles.

The controversy has sparked wider debate about ethics in healthcare, with many emphasizing the importance of keeping medical services insulated from ideological or political influences. The incident has also drawn attention to the responsibilities of doctors in upholding professional standards at all times.

The remarks by Santanu Sen underscore a broader concern that the sanctity of the medical profession must be protected, ensuring that patient care remains unbiased, inclusive, and guided solely by principles of humanity and ethics.
