Kolkata, West Bengal, India
As campaigning intensifies ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress leader and state minister Firhad Hakim, who is contesting from the Kolkata Port Assembly constituency, addressed voters during a door to door outreach, emphasizing development, inclusivity, and social harmony.
Firhad Hakim, while interacting with residents in Kolkata, said that the constituency feels like home to him and highlighted his continuous engagement with the public. He stated that development work has been carried out consistently in the area and that maintaining direct communication with people remains a priority.
He emphasized that development and public engagement are at the core of his political approach, stating that he regularly interacts with people to understand their concerns and needs.
During his campaign, Firhad Hakim strongly spoke against what he described as the rise of hatred in politics. He said that politics based on division among communities is harmful and should not be encouraged. Referring to recent political developments, he alleged that certain leaders have adopted divisive approaches after joining the BJP.
Targeting Suvendu Adhikari, Firhad Hakim claimed that such political strategies are promoting division among communities. He expressed concern over what he described as growing intolerance and warned against its impact on society.
He stated that hatred towards any community is wrong, mentioning that earlier Muslims were targeted and now Sikhs are being brought into political narratives, adding that politics should not be driven by hatred.
He further cautioned that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it could lead to cultural division in the state. According to him, Bengal’s cultural identity is rooted in unity and diversity, and any attempt to disrupt that balance would harm the state’s social fabric.
He warned that if “outsiders” influence the state’s governance, it could negatively affect Bengal’s culture and unity. His remarks reflect the Trinamool Congress’ broader campaign narrative focusing on regional identity and social harmony.
The campaign in Kolkata Port constituency witnessed active door to door engagement, with Firhad Hakim meeting residents, discussing local issues, and seeking support for the upcoming elections. Political campaigning across West Bengal has intensified, with leaders from all major parties addressing voters through rallies, public meetings, and grassroots outreach.
With contrasting narratives around development, identity, and governance, the political contest in West Bengal continues to grow sharper as the Assembly elections approach, with leaders making strong appeals to voters across constituencies.
