NEW DELHI / KOLKATA — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) sweeping victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, describing it as a triumph of “people’s power” and the result of decades of dedicated efforts by party workers.
Taking to social media, the Prime Minister said that BJP karyakartas from across the country were “euphoric” following the results, sharing glimpses from the party headquarters where celebrations were held. He emphasised that the scale of the victory reflects the collective strength, perseverance, and commitment of party workers who have worked on the ground for years.
“The BJP’s record win in West Bengal would not be possible without the efforts and struggles of countless karyakartas over generations. I salute them all,” Modi said, acknowledging their role in expanding the party’s base in a state where it had historically faced strong regional competition.
According to available results, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 206 out of 294 seats in the Assembly, marking a decisive and historic mandate. The outcome is particularly significant as it ends over a decade-long rule of the All India Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The victory also represents a major political shift in the state, as it is the first time in decades that neither the Trinamool Congress nor the Indian National Congress will be in power in West Bengal.
