TMC Leaders Criticise PM Modi Ahead of Address, Question Commitment to Women’s Empowerment….

Date:

KOLKATA, WEST BENGAL — Leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his address to the nation, questioning both his communication style and the government’s approach to women’s representation.

West Bengal Minister and TMC leader Bratya Basu alleged that the Prime Minister’s outreach lacks engagement, stating that there is “no dialogue” and only a one-way communication. He pointed out that the Prime Minister has not held a press conference in many years, suggesting that this limits opportunities for direct questioning and accountability.

Basu further claimed that public interest in such addresses has declined, arguing that people are less concerned about what the Prime Minister says in these speeches. He described the format as ineffective, adding that without interaction or accountability, such communication becomes less meaningful.

Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh focused on the issue of women’s representation, drawing comparisons between the Centre and the state government led by Mamata Banerjee.

Ghosh said that women’s participation in governance in West Bengal is already “top-notch”, claiming that the state has set an example in ensuring representation at multiple levels. He suggested that the Centre should look inward before promoting broader reforms.

Referring to the Women’s Reservation Bill, Ghosh questioned its impact and implementation, stating that the ruling party should first ensure greater representation of women within its own organisation before pushing for nationwide changes. He argued that internal reforms would strengthen the credibility of such initiatives.

The remarks come amid ongoing political debate surrounding women’s reservation and recent legislative developments in Parliament. Leaders from both ruling and opposition parties have been exchanging sharp views on the issue, each presenting their own narrative.

Political observers note that women’s empowerment and representation have emerged as key themes in current political discourse, especially in the context of upcoming elections and policy debates.

The statements by Bratya Basu and Kunal Ghosh highlight the TMC’s critical stance on the Prime Minister’s communication approach and the broader debate on women’s representation, while emphasising the party’s claim of stronger implementation at the state level.
