Amid the intensifying political campaign in West Bengal, former Union Minister Subhash Sarkar launched a strong attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress government, raising concerns over law and order, women’s safety, and border security, while also supporting key promises made by Narendra Modi during his rally in Murshidabad.
Speaking in Kolkata, Subhash Sarkar alleged that the state government under Mamata Banerjee is creating an atmosphere of fear in society. He claimed that people, especially women, do not feel safe in public spaces, including colleges and marketplaces.
He alleged that fear is being used as a tool of governance and that people are now looking for a change to restore a sense of safety and confidence.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks, Sarkar said that the BJP aims to bring a shift “from fear to trust,” assuring that once a BJP government is formed, public confidence will be restored. He expressed confidence that voters have already made up their minds and are ready for change.
He said that people are no longer willing to live under fear and are seeking a government that ensures security and trust.
On the issue of the Uniform Civil Code, Subhash Sarkar supported the Prime Minister’s stance, calling it an important step for ensuring equality and protection for women. He argued that no woman would want unequal legal provisions in personal matters and that a uniform law would strengthen women’s rights.
He described the UCC as an initiative aimed at ensuring safety and fairness for women, stating that it reflects a commitment to gender equality.
Targeting the West Bengal government, he alleged that opposition to the UCC is driven by political considerations rather than concern for public welfare.
In another statement, Sarkar responded to remarks made by Abhishek Banerjee regarding border security. He dismissed the claims and accused the state government of failing to provide land required for border fencing, which he alleged has contributed to infiltration issues.
He claimed that the state government’s inaction on providing land for border fencing has led to porous borders and security concerns.
The remarks come amid heightened political exchanges in West Bengal, where leaders from different parties are making strong allegations and counter allegations on issues such as governance, law and order, women’s safety, and national security.
