Kolkata Police has unveiled a specially designed uniform for the Durga Suraksha Squad, a dedicated women’s safety patrol unit launched earlier this month to raise awareness about crimes against women and strengthen public safety across the city.
The new uniform includes distinctive pink-and-orange waistcoats featuring the image of Goddess Durga and her trident (Trishul), along with specially designed pink safety helmets for officers patrolling on scooters.
The newly designed waistcoat reflects the squad’s mission of protecting women while promoting confidence and accessibility.
Key design elements include:
- 🩷 Pink colour representing compassion and care.
- 🟧 Orange colour symbolizing strength and courage.
- 🛡️ Image of Goddess Durga and her trident.
- 📌 “Durga Suraksha Squad” printed prominently in English.
- 🎒 Multiple utility pockets for operational convenience.
According to police officials, the design reflects both empathy toward women in distress and a firm commitment to preventing crimes against women.
The waistcoats have been tailored to support officers during daily patrols.

- Easy movement while riding scooters.

Manufacturers have been instructed to ensure the garments suit personnel of different body types without affecting operational efficiency.
Along with the waistcoats, Kolkata Police has also introduced specially designed pink helmets carrying the official Kolkata Police logo.
The helmets feature:

- Chin guards.
- Multi-layer soft padding.
- Proper ventilation.
- Enhanced rider safety.
Police have ordered around 80 helmets, while approximately 110 waistcoats have also been commissioned as part of the initiative.
The Durga Suraksha Squad primarily patrols the city on scooters to provide quicker assistance and improve women’s safety in public spaces.
