Amid the ongoing election campaign in West Bengal, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge announced a series of welfare promises aimed at women, farmers, and the general public, outlining the party’s vision for governance if voted to power.
Speaking in Kolkata, Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Congress party is committed to strengthening the social and economic position of women. He announced that women would be provided financial assistance of Rs 2000 every month as part of the party’s welfare initiatives.
He emphasized that empowering women is a key priority, stating that financial support, education, and safety measures will be strengthened to ensure their overall development. He also said that free education would be provided to women up to the post graduate level, aiming to improve access to higher education and create more opportunities.
In addition to financial and educational support, Kharge highlighted safety measures, stating that fast track courts would be established to ensure timely justice and enhance the safety of women.
He also focused on healthcare, announcing that a fully state funded health insurance scheme of up to Rs 10 lakh would be provided so that citizens can access affordable and quality healthcare services. The proposal aims to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on families.
Addressing farmer welfare, Kharge said that the Congress party plans to provide annual financial assistance of Rs 15,000 to farmers. He added that free electricity and improvements in the procurement system would also be ensured to increase farmers’ income and provide them with greater financial security.
He stated that these measures are designed to support farmers, improve agricultural productivity, and ensure better returns for their produce. The focus on agriculture remains a key part of the party’s election agenda.
The announcement comes as political parties in West Bengal intensify their campaigns, presenting welfare schemes and policy proposals to attract voters. Issues such as women’s empowerment, healthcare, education, and farmer welfare continue to dominate election narratives across the state.
Kharge’s announcement reflects Congress’ strategy to focus on welfare driven policies and inclusive development, aiming to address key concerns of different sections of society ahead of the elections.
