The Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated its 47th Foundation Day on April 6 with widespread enthusiasm and large-scale participation across the country, as party leaders and workers came together to commemorate its journey from modest beginnings to becoming one of the most influential political forces in the world.
The occasion traces its roots back to 1980, when the party was formed following a split from the Janata Party. Over the decades, it has witnessed a remarkable rise, evolving from securing just two seats in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections to leading governments at the Centre in 1998, 2014, and 2019, and continuing its dominance within the National Democratic Alliance with a strong presence in 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to party workers, acknowledging their relentless efforts and dedication. “Warm greetings to all BJP Karyakartas across the nation on the party’s Sthapana Diwas,” he stated, highlighting the role of grassroots workers in shaping the party’s identity.
He further emphasized the ideological foundation of the party, noting that its journey has always been guided by the principle of “India First”, with a consistent focus on public service and national development. The Prime Minister praised party workers for their selfless service, unwavering commitment, and deep connection with the people, which he said have been instrumental in the party’s expansion.
Senior leaders including Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis also reflected on the party’s growth, describing it as a testament to strong organizational structure and ideological clarity. They highlighted how the BJP has transformed into the world’s largest political organization, with a membership base exceeding 18 crore.
Across various states, celebrations were marked by the hoisting of saffron flags, community outreach programs, and gatherings of party workers who reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s vision. The atmosphere was one of pride and renewed determination, as cadres pledged to continue working toward national progress.
Leaders and workers alike reiterated their dedication to the goal of building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, aligning with the broader vision of a developed and self-reliant India as the nation approaches the centenary of its independence.
The Foundation Day celebrations not only served as a moment of reflection on the party’s historic journey but also as a platform to reinforce its future roadmap. From its humble inception to its current stature, the BJP’s trajectory was highlighted as a story of perseverance, expansion, and ideological commitment.
As the celebrations concluded, the message resonated clearly across party ranks — a continued focus on governance, grassroots connection, and the guiding principle of nation-first politics will remain central to the party’s path ahead.
