KOLKATA, WEST BENGAL — Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting with party leaders and workers in Kolkata as part of preparations for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
According to party sources, the meeting—attended by in-charges and Pravasi Karyakartas (outstation party workers)—continued for nearly four hours, reflecting the intensity of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign efforts in the state.
The discussions focused on strengthening booth-level management, improving coordination among party workers, and ensuring effective voter outreach ahead of the next phase of polling. Leaders also reviewed feedback from the ground and assessed the party’s performance in areas that have already gone to polls.
Sources said that special emphasis was placed on mobilising grassroots workers and addressing local issues raised by voters, as the party looks to expand its support base in West Bengal. The role of Pravasi Karyakartas was also highlighted, as they have been deployed to support local units in election management and campaigning.
Amit Shah is expected to remain in Kolkata until April 27, during which he is likely to hold more meetings, interact with party leaders, and take part in campaign activities across different constituencies.
The visit is seen as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to maintain momentum in the ongoing elections and closely monitor developments on the ground. Senior leadership involvement is considered crucial in guiding campaign strategy and boosting worker morale.
The West Bengal Assembly elections have witnessed intense political competition, with major parties stepping up their campaigns in the run-up to the remaining phases.
Amit Shah’s extended stay and back-to-back meetings underline the importance the BJP is placing on West Bengal, as it seeks to strengthen its position in the state through focused planning and grassroots engagement.
