Kolkata, West Bengal
Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified preparations for government formation in West Bengal as state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, and other senior party leaders visited Nabanna for a meeting on Wednesday.
The visit came a day before the BJP’s major Legislative Party Meeting scheduled to be held on May 8 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata. The programme will witness the felicitation of newly elected BJP MLAs in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to party sources, the meeting at Nabanna was viewed as politically significant because it took place during the transition period following the BJP’s decisive victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The BJP leadership is now actively working on organisational coordination, administrative planning, and preparations related to government formation in the state.
Visuals released by the BJP showed Samik Bhattacharya, Sunil Bansal, and other party leaders arriving at Nabanna amid heightened political activity in Kolkata. The visit immediately attracted attention because Nabanna serves as the administrative headquarters of the West Bengal government and has remained symbolically associated with the state’s political power centre for years.
Political observers believe the BJP leadership’s presence at Nabanna reflects the party’s attempt to establish its administrative readiness after securing a strong electoral mandate. The BJP has repeatedly stated that it intends to bring major changes in governance, law and order, and development policies in the state.
The visit also comes at a time when political tensions remain high in West Bengal after the election results. Both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have continued exchanging allegations over post-poll violence, attacks on workers, and administrative conduct, making every political development highly significant.
Meanwhile, preparations are continuing at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre for the Legislative Party Meeting. Earlier, Samik Bhattacharya, BJP MP Saumitra Khan, Sunil Bansal, and other senior leaders visited the venue to review arrangements for the event.
The May 8 programme is expected to bring together all newly elected BJP MLAs from across West Bengal. The event will serve as the BJP’s first major official gathering after its Assembly election victory and is likely to focus on legislative priorities, governance strategy, and organisational unity.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s participation has added further political importance to the meeting. Shah has been one of the BJP’s key strategists in West Bengal and played a major role in strengthening the party’s organisation and election campaign in the state over the past several years.
Party leaders have indicated that the programme will not only celebrate the victory of BJP legislators but also send a message regarding the party’s future governance agenda. The BJP leadership has repeatedly said that the people of West Bengal voted for political change, development, and stronger law and order.
Security arrangements in Kolkata are also expected to remain tight due to the presence of senior national leaders and the politically sensitive atmosphere in the state. Authorities are likely to deploy additional security personnel around both Nabanna and the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre to ensure smooth conduct of all programmes and meetings.
The BJP’s victory in West Bengal has significantly altered the state’s political equation. For years, the party functioned as the principal opposition force against the TMC, but the latest election results have placed it at the centre of power in the state.
Political analysts say the recent meetings and venue inspections indicate that the BJP is now focusing on establishing administrative control while also projecting organisational discipline and unity. The leadership appears keen to demonstrate that the party is prepared not only for electoral politics but also for governance responsibilities.
As attention shifts toward the Legislative Party Meeting on May 8, the BJP leadership’s visit to Nabanna is being seen as another important symbolic and political development in Bengal’s rapidly changing political landscape.
