BJP leader and victorious candidate from Kharagpur Dilip Ghosh has expressed serious concern over the attack on Chandranath, personal assistant to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, calling for immediate police action and stronger efforts to control violence in the state.
Speaking in Kolkata, Ghosh described the attack as alarming and said that such incidents must come to an end. “An attack has been carried out on his personal assistant. The incidents that are happening must stop,” he said, highlighting growing concerns within the BJP over the security of party workers and leaders after the Assembly elections.
The attack on Chandranath has become a major political issue in West Bengal, especially at a time when the state is witnessing heightened tensions following the BJP’s strong electoral performance. Several incidents of clashes, post-poll violence, and political confrontations have already been reported from different districts, increasing pressure on law enforcement agencies to maintain order.
Ghosh stated that although the BJP has secured victory in the elections and is preparing to form the government, administrative control has not yet fully shifted. “BJP has come to power, but the power has not yet come into our hands,” he remarked, suggesting that the existing administrative structure is still functioning under the earlier system.
He urged the police to take immediate and firm action against those responsible for violence and unrest. According to Ghosh, anti-social elements operating in different areas must be stopped before the situation worsens further. He argued that ensuring law and order is now one of the most important priorities for the state.
The BJP leader also alleged that many of the recent disturbances are linked to internal rivalries within the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He claimed that factional conflicts among TMC supporters are creating instability on the ground, while BJP workers are becoming victims of intimidation and attacks.
According to Ghosh, political workers who supported the BJP during the elections are facing pressure in several areas despite the party’s victory. He suggested that some local elements are attempting to create fear and uncertainty during the transition period following the election results.
The murder and attack involving Chandranath have intensified political reactions across West Bengal. Several BJP leaders have alleged that the incident reflects a continuing atmosphere of political violence in the state, while the TMC has rejected accusations linking the party to organised attacks.
Political observers note that West Bengal has historically experienced tense political transitions, particularly after fiercely contested elections. The current situation is being closely watched because of the scale of the BJP’s electoral success and the sharp political divide between the BJP and the TMC.
Meanwhile, police and investigative agencies are continuing to probe the attack on Chandranath.
