Kolkata, West Bengal, India

Amid rising political tensions and concerns over electoral integrity in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has issued a strong and clear message regarding the conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections.

In a firm statement, the Election Commission said that elections in West Bengal will be conducted in a completely transparent and secure manner, ensuring that the democratic process remains unaffected by fear, violence, or any form of malpractice.

The Commission emphasized that this time elections will be “fear-free, violence-free, intimidation-free, and inducement-free,” underlining its commitment to maintaining strict electoral discipline.

The statement also highlighted that practices such as booth capturing, commonly referred to as “chappa,” along with booth jamming and source jamming, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. These practices have historically been points of concern during elections in certain regions, making the Commission’s assurance particularly significant.

The Election Commission made it clear that strict measures will be taken to prevent any attempts to disrupt the electoral process, ensuring that voters can exercise their rights freely and safely.

The message comes at a time when political parties have been raising concerns over voter list revisions, security arrangements, and the overall fairness of the election process. With multiple allegations and counter allegations being exchanged, the Commission’s statement is being seen as an attempt to reinforce confidence among voters.

Authorities have already deployed central forces and strengthened monitoring mechanisms across sensitive areas to ensure peaceful polling. The Election Commission has also been actively overseeing preparations, including voter awareness campaigns and administrative coordination.

The assurance of a free and fair election aims to encourage maximum voter participation and uphold the credibility of the democratic system in the state.

As West Bengal prepares for polling in multiple phases, the role of the Election Commission remains crucial in ensuring that elections are conducted smoothly and without disruption.

With a strong message against fear, violence, and malpractice, the Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and peaceful elections in West Bengal.
