Kolkata, West Bengal, India
A political controversy and security concern emerged in West Bengal after a drone was reportedly spotted near the helicopter of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh reacted strongly to the incident, calling it a serious security matter and demanding greater vigilance from authorities.
Kunal Ghosh said that security agencies should have been more alert, especially during the landing and take off of a Chief Minister’s helicopter. He stated that such an incident should not happen and described it as a serious lapse in security arrangements.
He emphasized that when a Chief Minister’s helicopter is landing or taking off, security must be extremely tight and alert, and the presence of a drone near the helicopter is a serious issue. He added that authorities responsible for security should investigate the matter and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
The incident has raised concerns regarding VIP security and surveillance around important political leaders during election periods, when political movement and public events increase significantly. Security experts often consider drones near restricted airspace a serious concern due to potential risks to aircraft safety and VIP security.
Apart from the security issue, Kunal Ghosh also made political remarks regarding the ongoing election process in West Bengal. He alleged that central agencies are being used for political purposes during elections.
He claimed that agencies such as ED and NIA have been deployed and notices are being sent to candidates, with candidates being called for questioning during the election period. He further alleged that this is being done because the BJP does not trust the public and fears electoral defeat.
Kunal Ghosh also claimed that the BJP has not carried out development work in West Bengal and is therefore relying on agencies instead of public support. His remarks reflect the continuing political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.
The statements have added to the ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, where security issues, central agencies, and election related developments continue to dominate political discussions. With elections approaching, political exchanges between parties are becoming increasingly sharp, and more such statements and counter statements are expected in the coming days.
