Suvendu Adhikari took the oath of West Bengal chief minister today in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Apart from Modi and Shah, several BJP’s chief ministers and other leaders also joined the oath ceremony. Along with Adhikari, Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtaniya, Khudiram Tudu and Nishit Prananik also took the oath of minister post.
First BJP Leader To Become The West Bengal Chief Minister
Suvendu Adhikari becomes the first BJP leader to become the chief minister of West Bengal. This is the first time the BJP is forming its government in West Bengal. In the recently concluded assembly election, the BJP won a clear majority with 207 seats out of the total 294 seats.
Oath Ceremony cum Show of Strength
This oath-taking ceremony was not an ordinary oath-taking ceremony. Several chief ministers from BJP- and NDA-ruled states and other dignitaries attended this ceremony. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP’s National President Nitin Nabeen, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Ex BJP President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadakari, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his deputies, Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other personalities joined this event.
Tribute To Rabindranath Tagore
Before the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a road show with Suvendu Adhikari. Prime Minister and Suvendu Adhikari also paid tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary.
Clean Sweep
This is the first time that the BJP is forming a government in West Bengal. This time, the BJP swept the election, and the TMC won only 80 of the 294 seats. The outgoing chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, fought the election on two assembly seats from Nandigram and Bhavanipur. Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in both seats.
