West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya has strongly reacted to the murder of Chandranath, a close aide and personal assistant to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, describing the incident as a serious and politically sensitive crime that has intensified concerns over law and order in the state.
Speaking in Kolkata after the incident, Bhattacharya questioned whether the killing was intended to send a political message or if it was an act of political revenge. He stated that the ongoing investigation would eventually reveal the truth, but insisted that the murder was “no ordinary crime.”
According to Bhattacharya, the attackers allegedly carried out the operation in a highly planned and organised manner. He claimed that a vehicle with altered chassis numbers was used to block Chandranath’s path before the assailants opened fire from a motorcycle. These details, he argued, suggest premeditation and professional execution rather than a random act of violence.
The BJP leader used the incident to launch a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the party of creating an atmosphere where violence and intimidation have become normalised in West Bengal. He alleged that the state has been reduced to a condition where the rule of law has collapsed, claiming that constitutional principles are no longer functioning effectively in the region.
Bhattacharya further described the situation as a period of “Jungle Raj,” a term often used in Indian politics to refer to lawlessness and breakdown of governance. He argued that the recent electoral outcome in West Bengal represented a public rejection of such an atmosphere through democratic means, referring to the BJP’s strong performance in the Assembly elections.
At the same time, he stated that the political transition places a greater responsibility on the BJP leadership and workers to restore public confidence and ensure stability. According to him, the party now carries the burden of responding firmly to violence while maintaining democratic order.
The murder has sparked significant political reactions because Chandranath was closely associated with Suvendu Adhikari, one of the BJP’s most prominent faces in West Bengal politics.
