The 9th of May date was decided because it was also the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. BJP leaders stated that the oath-taking ceremony will be performed on the 9th of May on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Central Observers

Earlier today, the BJP appointed Union Home Minister Amit Shah as the central observer to discuss and elect the party leader among the winning candidates. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi was appointed as the central co-observer by the party along with Amit Shah. The date is decided, but it is not clear yet who will become the chief minister in the state.

CM Post Contenders

Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamta Banerjee in the Bhabanipur assembly constituency with more than 15,000 votes, is one of the strongest contenders for the chief minister post. Suvendu Adhikari began his career with the Congress party but later moved to the TMC. He played a crucial role in the Nandigram protest and helped Mamta Banerjee to win the elections on the wave of Nandigram sentiments. In the year 2020, he joined the BJP and became the leader of the opposition after the 2021 assembly elections, in which the BJP won 77 seats. When asked about the CM post, he said, There is no change in me, and I am not hungry for power.
