Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kharagpur Sadar, Dilip Ghosh, on Thursday asserted that the people of West Bengal are prepared for a political shift, as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assembly elections.
Speaking in Kolkata, Ghosh expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the state. “The public of the state is ready to vote for change… West Bengal will move ahead in pace with the nation,” he said, positioning the party’s campaign around development and alignment with national growth.
Emphasising the BJP’s track record, he added, “The BJP fulfils all the promises that they made to the public,” highlighting the party’s claim of delivering on its commitments in states where it is in power.
Ghosh also raised concerns over law and order, particularly women’s safety. “The women are not safe in the state,” he said, alleging shortcomings in governance under the current administration.
On employment, he pointed to migration trends among the youth. “The youth of Bengal is going to other states for jobs. We will bring them back to Bengal and they will contribute to the development of the state,” he stated, outlining the BJP’s focus on job creation and economic opportunities within the state.
In a political remark targeting smaller parties, Ghosh said, “AIMIM and the party of Humayun Kabir both are zero,” dismissing their electoral significance in the ongoing contest.
The statements come amid a high-stakes electoral battle in West Bengal, where the BJP is seeking to expand its presence against the ruling Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Political observers note that issues such as development, employment, and law and order have become central themes in the campaign, with parties attempting to appeal to different sections of voters.
